Mainstream Hip-Hop: Am I the only one who thinks that Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy suck?

People who listen to them think that's REAL "Hip-Hop," but that's just Pop/Rap. Real Hip-Hop is from the 90's %26amp; 80's. Most mainstream rap today only rap about cars, money, girls, and how "gangster" they are. I'm only 13, and I HATE the bull-**** mainstream rap today. You need to stop listening to this mainstream crap and start listening to some Underground Hip-Hop. The real sh*t like Canibus, The Roots, KRS-One, MF Doom, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Planet Asia, Rakim, RJD2, Talib Kweli, Jedi Mind Tricks, Nujabes, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, and Immortal Technique. Most people who like Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne only like them, because they get all their information about Hip-Hop from MTV/BET/RADIO. They don't know much about Hip-Hop. They don't know the history. All they know is what they see on TV and what they hear on the radio. Mainstream rap is such a joke! Alternative Rap is where the TRUE rappers are! Anybody else agree?

the fact that people pay to listen to mainstream rappers just doesn't give any other non-mainstream, "real" rappers a chance to shine. yes, i agree that sometimes you just want to listen to something with a beat, something to dance to, something to make you feel good. but still. how is anyone going to educate the next generation when all they listening to is some song about a knick-knack-patty-wack, superman type dance?!
Reply:disagree mainstream is also young jeezy, t.i.,jay-z. even at a point in time circa "94" wu-tang was mainstream, tribe called quest was very popular during 91-96 on yo mtv and bet. i hope this isnt another stab at southern rap because there are many lyrical muscians like:scarface, pastor troy, gangsta boo. who are you to say who has talent and who doesnt. again young jeezy and lil wayne(around for 10 plus years) was "alternative rap" before 2005 and if you know wutang was mainstream they had a catchy chorus cream, method man, etc.are you saying rap music 16 years ago and beyond didnt rap about material things...it also seesms as if you just discovered hip hop/rap i grew up with it.

Reply:I saw that you said that MOST of it is BS, but I do think there are a few songs that are mainstream that are good. Lupe Fiasco, in my opinion is one of the best out there right now. Talib Kweli is good too. But out of the songs that are only on the top 40 radio, I can't find more that a few per year that are good. I do agree with you.

i like over half those people you named, you 4got Biggie, Tupac, Jay-Z, Big L etc. but i listen to Lil Wayne but NOT soulja boy...he is just trash...but Lil Wayne can rap OK

But when it comes to lil wayne, i really do think he is the best rapper. Hes got great beats being sent to him and he delievers good songs all the time.





Soulja boy is a total mockery to rap and Crank That should never ever be played on this earth again. But i support lil wayne and enjoy his music.
