Question about Nas' new album "Hip Hop Is Dead"?

So now EVERYONE knows the controversy surrounding this album. Especally it's name. So just to ask: If you heard the album then what are your personal opinions about it's content? Like do you support the fact that Hip Hop is overcommercalized and losing it's quality? Or do you think that Nas is whining his rhymes about the state of Hip Hop?

My personal opinion is that Hip Hop IS dead!!!! Thanks to the ever stale Southern Hip Hop music such as Dem Franchize Boys, Mike Jones, Three 6 Mafia, Young Jeezy, Snap Music, etc, Hip Hop is dying and is losing it's originality!!! THEY killed Hip Hop, Nas said so, and I agree!!!!!!! Nas IS the true street dream!!! So screw Young Jeezy!!!!!!!

Question about Nas' new album "Hip Hop Is Dead"?
Rap Aint Dead, It Lives In TEXAS!!!

Reply:Sorry but your taste in music, especally Hip Hop, SUCKS!!!!! Report It

Reply:lmao yeaa.. most people in tx suck

Reply:Yeah. Mike Jones!! LOL!!!!!! What a joke!!!!!! Report It

Reply:Hip hop is not dead, but you have to understand the next generation needs new music, unless you want more plagiarized music.
Reply:that's an Accurate Port-rail of the Rap Music today.
Reply:I agree that hip hop is over commercialized...everything (with very few exceptions) sounds the same.

***** boys like jim jones and juelez santana who wanna wear pink and purple with glitter and lace get more respect that a real lyricist (nas) or a veteran rapper (LL cool J)

it is all about showiness now and not at all about what is being said.

the main rappers that are out there talking about their money and hoes have forgotten that that money is borrowed and them hoes are up for grabs...there are very few rappers who have the right to talk about their money (i.e. Jay-z, eminem, Dr. Dre, and although i hate to admit it 50 cent) and of that list, 50 owes his career to Em and Em owes his career to Dre...

personally...i blame Lil Jon.....YEEEAAAHHH, OKAAY, and all that BS.

it is fun to listen to in a club or at a party but really it is all garbage.

For the record, i hate 50 as a rapper, but think if he would give up trying to be thuggish he would be an EXCELLENT role model for children (doesn't drink, no drugs, no ciggarettes, obviously healthy) i think eminem is a gimmick (not meaning that white people shouldnt rap, but seriously white boys, stop trying to be eminem...you are not succedding) juelez santana raps like garbage, but he sure is pretty.

Nas is the best out there. He needs to leave his hoe *** wife alone and stop putting her in his songs because she cant sing...

i agree with you on screw young jeezy...he is am ******** too...
Reply:Hip Hop has been dead for years. Bone Thugs and Harmony alsmost resurrected it and B.I.G put some life into it. These days rap is terrible. Run DMC or old LL Cool J any day.
Reply:havent heard the album yet, but nas is really insightful and im sure hes taken a close look at the reality of "hip hop" today to come to his conclusion (not that youd have to look closely.. its all so evident). i dont think his album is what it takes to see that "hip hop" is at an all time low. ive known this for years now, and so have many others. hopefully, some peoples eyes will be opened by it, but it isnt likely that most will even give it a 2nd thought.
Reply:Thats right HIP HOP IS DEAD!!!i have all of NAS's CDs and they're really good. This is gonna be a classic.I like the songs black republican, still dreaming, cant forget about you, hope, hustlers, and of course hip hop is dead.

I think you r right with all that dumb rap.my favorite music is '90s rap.now with all that dumb rap what is up with "chicken noodle soup"?
Reply:I think that it;s funny that he's saying Hip Hop is Dead but his strongest cd's were his first 2. Ever since then you might get a couple of good songs on his cd and not more. I guess I kida feel like he's bashing a loss of creativity in lyrics but he was way more lyrical when It Was Written came out so he is a culprit himself.
Reply:In my opinion, hip hop really has died.

Most 'hip hop' music is commercialized for the masses to the brink of having nothing but 'snap' and dance music. Real hip hop used to be about speaking lyrics with a meaning to the beat of a song, like spoken word. Now, it's simply about who has the best beats and who has the best dances.
Reply:It's about the money. I'm positive that it's the large digits that matter to the minorities. Nas may think differently, but that's simply his opinion. As long as people still listen to it, it's alive. That's where the term "dead as disco". Nobody listens to disco, thus it's dead. The record sales will tell whether or not it's truly dead. So far it seems alive and kicking. I never liked Nas or Jay-z. If it's the lifestyle you live you won't have a problem talking about it. Snap music is fun. It may get repetitive sometimes, but it's still fun. Young Jeezy still has some fun tunes as well. Dipset, R Kelly, Lil' Wayne, they're all doing waht they do the best they know how to, and that's not going to change for anything. So Nas can say 'oh back in the day this and that and this' but it won't change the fact that those days are over. It simply makes him old. He's saying his own music is dead. Acknowledging his own defeat. How observant of him. You can say whatever you want about rap, but the fact of the matter is they're making more money than you. You can have your opinion like this person beneath me, but the truth is, what does she really know about rap. What does anyone who isn't in the ghetto or a very difficult situation know about being a minority in slumlife. Nothing. Thus, if they're not living it or experiencing it, it isn't there's and they should leave it alone. Tupac and Big were as big are as big as they were because people saw them to be the most truthful. Everyone has the truth twisted up but the real ambition is the money. Next comes the fans and the fame, all three translate to status, which is a natural want for all humans. If you were getting money as well, you wouldn't care what it was that you were shipping out as long as those checks were coming in. They're only words, if you don't like it, don't listen to them. If you don't like other people listening to them, then you're out of luck because you can't control other's actions. Anyone who is in disagreement with this statement is in simple denial. It's the facts of life on this subjecct. Take the money away and see how many rappers would still want to rap. Not many, and even if they did, it wouldn't be how it was before. You just have to face it, that's all there is to it. People like money. That's all. And I know if you say it blatantly you're seen as a bad person, but all in all, it's true.
Reply:it's a good album, but i think he has a point about MAINSTREAM hip-hop. there's no problem with new and original hip-hop being produced, it just isn't that popular.

but what's the beef? hip-hop has slunk into popular culture now, and it has been debased in the same way as any other genre of "pop" music. you just have to look harder for the good stuff.
Reply:good song! but on the unedited cd, the song is edited. stupid
Reply:I haven't heard the album, but I've been feeling for a long time that hip hop was on it's way out. There are a few good artists out there left but the majority of people will never hear them because they aren't a sellable commodity. I blame a lot of that on MTV. Now music is more about what the person looks like then what the person sounds like. Music videos went from being artistic to soft porn. From featuring the artist to featuring the background dancer. From shots that show the whole band performing to shots going up a chicks skirt. And it doesn't matter what genre of music nowadays, all genre's have taken a turn for the worse.

I LOVE OLD SKOOL! Digable Planets, De La, Tribe, OLD Black Eyed Peas (long before I Can't Sing Fergie Crack Head Pee Myself on Stage). We need to stick with the good ones like Common and Mos Def. What a shame that such a beautiful, original expressive music has turned to crap.
Reply:Sorry darlin', but I'm with Ludacris on this one - Hip Hop isn't dead - it's alive in the ATL. And screwing Jeezy might have been an option for me 30 years ago, but I'm a little bit old now.
