One, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIP HOP AND RAP?
Two, WOULD YOU CONSIDER SONGS LIKE "AY BAY BAY", "PARTY LIKE A ROCKSTAR", AND "GET LOW"... HIP HOP?
My opinion on the second questions is: I consider those songs (and many others out there) to be Rap. NOT HIP HOP.
Popular culture calls it Hip Hop when its not at all like the Hip Hop from back in the days. Many people will disagree with me. Very few have a agreed with my opinion.
What is everyone's thought on this?
I've been having a discussion with some friends over the difference between hip hop and rap.
I know I am right when I say that "today's" hip hop SUCKS. People classify today's popular rap songs as hip hop, which I think totally disagree with.
What do you all think?
What is the difference between hip hop and rap?
“rap is something we do, Hip Hop is something we live”
-KRS-ONE
Reply:Hip Hop is a lifestyle and culture, rap is a part of it.
It's considered hip-hop but it's not close to being good. Rap is hip hop. But there is a difference between rappers and MCs.
KRS-One- " Rappers spit ryhmes that are mostly illegal, MC spit rhymes to up lift their people"
Reply:hip-hop is a culture, rap is just a part of it. Hip-Hop is everything from break dancing to r%26amp;b
Reply:rap is with a heavy beat and rhyming and hip-hop is nice beat and just talking about life and problem
Reply:Rap is a method of delivering lyrics. Hip-hop is a style of music. There doesn't have to be rapping in a song and it can still be hip-hop. i.e. Gnarles Barkley
Reply:Hip-Hop encompasses everthing:the clothes, the shoes, the attitude, etc. When people ask why we act how we do, we can just say we've been exposed to Hip Hop culture. Rap is the business of rhyme.
Reply:rap is just rhyming freestyling kinda thing like say 50 cent's song In the club
