If you believe you are hip hop please provide me details on what makes you hip hop. What elements about you and your style makes you this way? Are you hip hop every day? When did you become hip hop? You can also define hip hop in your own words to compliment your answer.
Are you hip hop?
I am hip hop...of course the 4 elements of hip hop being; MCing, Breakdancing, Graffiti, and DJing, but i dont believe you have to identified with all 4 of those elements to be considered hip hop, because there is more to hip hop than that..Its your language, the way you dress, the culture itself, those 3 elements are what make me hip hop. I am hip hop everyday and i've been this way since birth..Alot of the mainstream today is not real hip hop, it doesnt focus on the principles upon which hip hop was built, its hip-POP, its just a imitation, a knock off of the real thing, a get rich quick scheme,....My own definition of hip hop, like i said earlier: the langauge, the culture, but you also have to acknowledge and respect the presence of the 4 main elements.

Reply:to be hip hop...u have to identify yourself with all the five-six elements of hip hop...
1. emcee-ing
2. dj-ing
3. breaking (b-boy)
4. graffiti
5. hip hop fashion
6. slang
i can identify with some elements of hip hop since i live in the hood, but i wont say i am hip hop...i am me
Reply:Maybe I'm hip hop because I like hip hop music and the garter of my underwear shows when I'm shirtless.
Reply:No I am not. But hip-hop is so cool.
Reply:liquidswords guy, just cus youre black doesnt mean youre hiphop. im not saying your not, but i saw a black country singer, and i dont think hes hiphop.
Reply:I am hip-hop in it's purest form. I am an MC who knows what that means in every sense. Like Q-Tip told me, it is all about Moving Crowds!! I rock mics because I love to not because i want to be a millionaire and get chains and whips. I do it because if I didn't do it I would go crazy!!!
I keep my style my own because that is what hip-hop used to be about...your individuality. Everyone these days wants to dress like the next guy and look like the next man. That just is not me. I am me and that is what sets me apart from other folks and I try to dress accordingly. Nothing crazy because I usually keep it simple in some Adidas and a hoodie. Its funny because I used to go to open mics and battles like that and people say "This isn't 8 Mile!" Im like I know this is hip-hop buddy sorry you get your hip-hop from movies!! I am hip-hop everyday for sure. When I walk I bop with my walkman down the block!! I cannot help it!! If they ever open a Hip-Hop University, I can be teaching courses there for sure because I love my culture and I try to find out about all the hip-hop out there. From old school like Super Cassanova to Force Md's to Wu Tang to Heiro to Tribe to Tech n9ne to Camp Lo to Black Moon to Freestyle Fellowship to I can go on and on but you get the point. I love my culture and what it has created that has spread worldwide. I respect anyone that is doing quality music, but wack is wack and I have no problem with calling it that!!! Sometimes people want to hate on Southern music saying it is killing hip-hop, but back in the beginnings people were making songs to get the party started and that is what I look at many of those records as. Party starters and dance music nothing else. We cannot get mad at labels giving the "mainstream" consumer what they want and call it the death of hip-hop. We just need to support the true artists.
And no I NEVER don't associate myself with hip-hop because it is in me. I am hip-hop and can always get in a conversation defending my culture to people who don't understand it. Ignorance is one thing but if they choose just not to try to understand than it becomes stupidity and I cannot argue with stupidity. I can remember when I realized I was when I was walking down the street singing Boyz in the Hood and my friend taught me the words to Snoop's Ladi Dadi, that was when I realized that this is me. I was hooked and being walking with her ever since.
Hip-hop in its truest form is obviously the Mc, the Dj, the b-boys. and the graf artists. People who do the music because they love the music are hip-hop. If your main objective for doing music is making a million, then you are a rapper who makes rap music. If you are broke struggling, working a 9 - 5, coming home and making beats til 3 in the morn or lacing some beats with some ill vocals and getting up and doing it all over again is hip-hop. It is the struggle and the rise above it all which makes it so real to people worldwide.
Hip-hop will never die...It's like Bebe's Kids...It will only multiply!!!
Reply:Im not current hip hop I more old school hip hop when it was about skills. The 90's was a good time for hip hop with Black moon, Onyx, Wutang Clan hitting us with the real. Now hip hop is a watered down version of its original form manufactured to appeal to the Masses.
Reply:Hip Hop is too commercial now.
Reply:I am, but in an old-school way.
