Is hip hop fading away?

Does anyone else feel as if hip hop is fading away? Basically I have witnessed the evolution of hip hop. Seems to me the stuff that is out now compares in no way to the stuff I used to listen to as a kid. For example seems like in the80s and 90s people had a message and there were some great lyricist. Now, I feel as though all you need is a halfway decent beat and you can rap crap and still get paid. I feel as if many of the mainstream rappers ( with very few exceptions), have no lyrical talent and have no message in their music. Rap has always been about a message to the people. Rap/Hip Hop is fading. Do you think a few new TALENTED artist will emerge to revive hip hop/rap, or do you think it is on it's way to fading out or becoming mainly underground? Do you think people are tired of hearing about bling, cars and everything else? thanks for your responses

Is hip hop fading away?
its fadig all right but a new kind is emerging the stuf that people call crap
Reply:yeh, iz fading, underground, immotal technique, gotta show respect fo em, but after 08, his hops gon die, 50 last album, dres last album, so yea, its over
Reply:I hear exactly what you're saying, I'm one of the old-schoolers on here and we make this argument all the time. To be fair, I try to be objective about it. I can't expect a 16 yr old to fully embrace old-school and naturally I'm too old to understand this generation's Hip Hop. BUT, I would like to see more balance in today's Hip Hop culture. It seems so one-sided, as opposed to the early 90's. These kids today have to practically DIG deep for some decent music. Whereas back in the early 90's, mainstream had "underground quality." It was poetry and people respected lyrical abilities. And of course without all the half-nude women in the videos, brand name clothing, cars, bling etc.. But to answer your question, I do think Hip Hop's appeal is fading, because everything is so redundant. I think the artists' styles are all too similar, everyone looks, acts and raps the same. Everyone has that same image. It's lacking originality. No one stands out anymore. I don't think Hip Hop will ever die, but I do think it needs to change. I agree, I think people are tired of hearing about pimpin etc... Maybe 2008 will be the year for change.
Reply:GOD!! I hope so!
Reply:I do believe hiphop is fading, by the time you can have 50cent as one of the biggest names in the industry, then you know there is a problem. Excluding the rappers that have been around for a while (since the early 90's) like Snoop, Jay z, Common and a few others, I can count the decent rappers out of all the fairly recenct ones (came through in the late 90's to today) on one hand, let me see...., Lupe Fiasco, Ludacriss, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne ...., drat I didn't even finish the fingers on the hand! Hiphop is gone
Reply:never been a big groupie for hip hop cause I didn't get it at first. then ice cube, snoop dog, and bone thugs made it interesting for a little while, then it seemed like everybody was getting shot over dumb stuff, so i got out again cause of all the negativity. now i'm old. saw a video at work on accident while flipping channels and there was a black boy dressed kinda yuppie rapping in a very mellow fashion about kick.. push.. kick- skateboarding! wow. that's a nice diversion from the normal video with pimped out cars and hoochie mamas and as much noise and bass and overproduction mass marketing as possible. i wouldn't blame the artists. blame the media that pushes the bull. seems like if anything passes the test of time it's in the dance clubs where you have access to a dj, and the djs tell the radio...
Reply:I totally agree with you. Hip hop will eventually die out with all these artists out there named Hurricane Chris and Souljah Boy. I've always liked artists like Bone Thugs, Tupac, Eminem, and Lil Wayne. They actually send a message in their lyrics.
Reply:Hip hop is fading..Its all about money..Underground hip hop is the only pure form left..True art!!My faves are...Immortal Technique,Jedi Mind Tricks,Chino XL,Tech N9ne,just to name a few..As far as a new talented(commercial)artist reviving hip hop, atleast somewhat, id have to say is Lupe Fiasco..His latest album is dope!!
Reply:I sincerely hope so!!!!
Reply:Hip-Hop was the original art of story telling. Different generations sparked different flows and styles. I think it is dying, but not everyones flow is strange in my eyes or maybe yours. Some artist are trying to revive it.
Reply:Hip hop now is talking fast with some beats. I agree with you a bit that some have no talent. Its like their talking. But thats what the public views of this now. But the music definately has message. For example gangsta' rap has a message that shows the life of a gangster, all of their ups and downs.
