Will anyone agree that hip hop has been corrupted with commercialism?

basically, i love hip hop. but i feel that a lot of people are being blinded by real, true, hip hop. when i say real hip hop, i mean the hip hop that came out of the south bronx. i mean the hip hop where mc's used to spit about the world around thema nd their streets and not about cars, hoes, and chains. soulja boy is a great example that anyone can make money. just make one song (maybe add a lil dance to it) and then, BAM! u can say the craziest stuff on it but it wouldn't matter because if u made a ringtone contract, and ppl r feelin ur dance moves and beat, u'll sell millions.

Will anyone agree that hip hop has been corrupted with commercialism?
i think you are confusing hip-hop and rap. rap is strictly commercial; its a business these days, it's not about the music anymore. hip-hop is alive and thriving, just overshadowed by the money-hungry idiots. i wish that white suburbia had not adopted rap in the mid 90's we wouldn't be where we are today. only ignorant people wouldn't agree with you. rap is a business, hip-hop is a lifestyle.
Reply:yeah that bullshit like souljia boy and dat a bay bay peeps care about catchy-ness more then real hip-hop nowadayz but i refuse 2 fall 2 the corrupt hip-hop no shity music wiill keep me from real hip-hop brotha i agree completly man thnx for breakin da silence
Reply:thing is wen songs hav goood beats, noone cares about what they say. like calabrai 2007, no one knows wut da hell shes saying, but it has a gud *** beat so ppl luv da song
Reply:of course, no doubt on it that some of the commercialized music has corrupted hip hop...
Reply:totally agree. it's stupid. no one really cares about your necklaces, they look, act, and rap stupid. i like some hip-hop though. and basically after every other word they cuss.
Reply:I highly agree with that...im not trying to be a hater of some sort but all these dance crazes is kinda corny. People don't realize that there's millions of people all around the world, that's underground and thats trying to make it in the game while these people making it easy in the game because they sell...obviously in order to sell you have to be commercial and thats why the game is all messed up now...me i like to listen to artists like Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, Sean Price and a little bit of D-Block but most people around the world just like to listen to all this commercial nonsense...there's alot of commercial artists and that's what gets me angry about the game
Reply:what about that stupid rock, country and all that hard metal.sometimes it is just as stupid(sometimes you can't understand what they say). It does not matter what you think.give it a thumb down but that music makes no sense.everyone has there own thought and that's just what you think, this is what i think.
Reply:i dont really listen to hip hop but um i agree hip hop shouldnt be about rappers cars and crap like that!
Reply:yes it does get annoying after awile but there just trying to get money ,youve gota think about that. dont get me wrong i love rap but after about the 80millionth song about somebodys lamborghini or rolls royce and necklaces and shoes and rims and the list goes on and on it does gat annoying
Reply:As far as the Culture is concerned I agree. How in the HELL does Hip Hop go from Style Wars to Flava of Love?!? Some kids know Flava Flav.because of that show, and have no idea who Public Enemy is,something is seriously wrong with that!!

Don't get me wrong.Flava of love AINT Hip Hop,it's the fact that the shows main subject comes from one of the most important groups of all Time.

Alot of kids don't know 3rd Bass either, but I respect the White Rapper Show because of the competitive element representing one of the four elements (MCing)
