Hip Hop-- How It Portrays Women?

Firstly, what led me to asking this is because of another post that was posted not long ago. Not only that but also because of the discussions that were brought up in BET's Hip Hop vs. America.

Why do people make such a big deal out of it? I realize that kids also listen to music and they may see videos with women dressing revealingly but then again you see that everywhere you go, beaches and so on. Secondly, why do people try to make hip hop out to be all bad? Listening to the actual lyrics may help out, most rap songs have a message to it.

Back to the question, the women in these videos were not forced to be in the video, it's there own choice. If these women don't mind being called a hoe why does anyone else?

This has nothing to do with the question but if you came to this section just to say negative things about rap and hip hop, don't even bother.

Hip Hop-- How It Portrays Women?
I'm guessing this must have been because of the question i've asked earlier.

I don't want to talk too much about positives and negatives now,i i want to talk about the women.

Those women were raised listening to hip hop music. IT has given them the idea that they are just sex objects have nothing more to offer. Of course, they are dumb for being a video like that and disresepcting themselves. But being a woman without much education, what other ways is there to make a living?

By the way you are talking, I assume you are well educated. Try thinking in those young women's shoes. They do not have much choice. Especially when they have been taught by people around them, music and the media that women are to be the sex objects of men. They do realize this is wrong, but like what you are saying , they are thinking, What is the big deal?

I do not believe there are such things are hoes and bitches. I believe it is the environment and the media that have raised such people. No woman likes to be on camera half naked.

And those woman don't seem to mind being called a hoe. How do you know? How would it feel like be called a hoe everyday? to be seen a sexual video with man who treats you like a sex toy?

Many woman do not care if they are called a hoe or a *****. They think that they are calling them a hoe. They think that's just how men talk.

As a teenage girl, i've been called hoe many times and actually never really minded. One time a boy came up to me and ordered me to go to the bathroom with him in where we can have oral sex. I refused and he called me an ugly hoe. Of course, i didn't seem to mind.

But as i listen to the lyrics of rap and hip hop music, i realized where this boy was getting this sorta of language from. The media has made it look to be okay when men talk like that to woman. to treat woman that way. but it's not.

This is a great topic to talk on and i'm glad we have different opinions. If you would like to talk more about this, please email me at dancingmonkey45@yahoo.com
Reply:i thank god women as smart as u exist

-everyting u just said-wow

if only u could broadcast that over america

then maybe some of those hip-hop haters

wouldnt be so stupid
Reply:I agree with you...those women chose to be in the video...if people say its the rappers that are degrading women...i think its the other way around....its the women in the videos that are giving the bad name
Reply:Hip-Hop is different from Rap. Hip-Hop is NO WHERE NEAR Rap. They are on two different levels. Hip-Hop does not derogatize(however you spell it) women in any disrespectful way..on the other hand, Rap does alot of "ho3s this, ho3s that" "***** this, ***** that"

Hip-Hop has never talked down about a women..know the difference between Rap and Hip-Hop before talking about it.

We have to remember, Rap is just music.

Hip-Hop is beyond music, it's a way of life. It's a culture...

Breakdancing, Emceeing, Beatboxing, Graffing, DJing.

Hip-Hop and Rap or not even the exact same. Different pages.
Reply:I'm new here by the way, but I just want to say I know its the women's choice to be in the video but the artist should have enough respect to show them in a decent more positive light. I mean I think the question here should be why do the rappers WANT the women (who are their audience and supporters and fans) to be protrayed that way? Sure we have a responsibility and can make our own choices but where is their responsibility too??
Reply:Well people are blind to see that before hip hop women were dressing that way and since hip hop speaks of them in positive and negative ways people choose to blame hip hop because they can't blame any one else kinda like a jury in a judicial situation usually the jury has to decided guilty or not guilty but when it's a public jury they have been through situations that determine they're jurisdiction but with hip hop all u have to do is mention something or show it in ya video and blam!! you're being shot at with every thing for no real reason at all.......... I hope that answers your question the best lol
Reply:I've seen women portrayed the same in other music genre but you never hear anything about them.
Reply:I answered this like ten minutes ago. And i agree with you, its their damn choice, leave them alone and quit tarring all women with the same brush. End of.
Reply:I AGREE =]
Reply:its anyones own opinions here
