The only real hip hop i hear today is 50 cent, lil wayne, snoop dogg, t.i., nelly, lupe fiasco and many more are the only artist keeping hip hop alive?

Reply:It is dying. The beats (if any!) nowadays are just painful to listen too, back in the 80's %26amp; 90's there were good songs coming every week. Plus they had some sort of meessage (good, bad, funny,etc) but there was a meessage. Nowdays the only thing we get is the suburban crap that kanye west plays, Beyonce and her 200 hundred songs that sound the same and the sold out Jay Z. even Snoop nowdays is doing techno (listen to his last song...) In my opinion too many "lil"s and"young"s.

Reply:Over time music gains and loses popularity, evolves and changes, but it never dies. And you have to keep in mind that there's many artists that do try to keep the original sound of hip-hop alive, it's just that they are overshadowed by the people like Soulja Boy.
Reply:authentic hip hop ended in the late 80s. the fat boys and kid n play making movies marked the end of real new york hip hop. after that every one including tupac, lil wayne and 50 are all frauds. they're making pop music and not authentic hip hop.

Reply:tupac was not a fraud at all. a lot of his stuff was about things that matter. there was a lot of real hip hop still in the 90's and even today. its just not as publicized because people like the beats more than lyrics now. and the newer artist have trememndous beats w/lyrics that have no substance. but there are people like immortal technique and common who are very true to real hip hop. so no its not dead

Ok so everyone is saying that hip hop is dead in general and others saying that new york hip hop is dead and me being a new yorker i gotta ask something: Why are all of you southerners saying that new york hip hop is dead when in reality you guys aren't helping at all with your unintelligent, mindless music??? EXAMPLES: Soulja Boy "let me supersoak that hooooooooo*" Come on now!! I like a few southern rappers but tell us who is gonna really bring back hip hop and don't say soulja boy lol..

Reply:Popular music is generally a reflection of society, that being said, hip-hop isn't dead, it's morphing with other sounds and rhythms from different influences and cultures. Though for hip-hop to be back it has to offer something innovative and ground-breaking, the same old stuff won't cut it anymore at the grand scale market that it used to; I think that hip-hop has lost popularity because it ceased to be interesting, it's just repetitive now: same themes, same beats *yawn.
For my money, the next big thing is "reggaeton" (or heavily reggaeton infused hip-hop), maybe -as a New Yorker (I assumed you where from your post)- you've already heard of it...
Anyway it's been all the rage for a couple of years in Latin-America and it's just starting to penetrate the U.S. market (e.g. Snoop is featuring some reggaeton artists in his latest tracks). I recommend you download some tracks by Daddy Yankee and Don Omar.
Sure, unless you're fluent in Spanish, you won't get a kick of much of the lyrics, but you can't beat the rhythms, they're blow-your-mind explosive, much much more than hip-hop.
Reggaeton is a micture of latin beats, african beats, native rhythms, reggae and hip-hop. It started in Panama but now Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are the main sources.
Try it! If you hate it, simply delete it and that's that!

For some reason, northerners think that since they started hip hop that everyone that does hip hop should follow their lead, and they hate artist that don't. Where we from, we say thing straight up, and don't feel the need to use complex metaphor in every single line, that being said, some southerners can use complex metaphors just as easily as anyone in the north. whether "Hip Hop is Dead" or not, seems to be the most talked about subject on here, let me start off by saying I dont think Hip Hop is Dead, i see some old heads and young heads alike sayin it is, and sometimes the reason is "age", cant relate or identify with todays music. If thats the case, i wonder why so many teens on here are more into 90's hip hop, i mean it comes from a different time that they may not necessarily be able to identify with but still like it. All Hip Hop isnt just what gets played on the radio, there is underground, hip hop isnt just limited to the united states, not only that, but its a culture, how can it die? Im not sayin the quality of the music is perfect, but i think some people would rather spend time cryin about "hip hop is dead" instead of appreciating some of the truly talent artists out there. let Soulja Boy, Mims, etc. get their 15 minutes of fame and be done with...Thats just my opinion

In every genre you will have those few who will come out with gimmicks to make a quick buck and have some short term, and in some cases a long term fame, but eventually the listeners will get tired of it. Trends do not last forever, they eventually fade ready for another. Hip Hop will always have the trends, ad this one is lasting quite long but eventually it will go. There are so many artists out there that make good hip hop, it will be kind of hard for it to just DIE.

Some may disagree, but I can't stand most hip hop today. I miss the days, especially the mid-90s when hip hop was at it's prime. When you could turn on the radio, and a decent artist would always be done, whether that be Nas, Jay Z (mid 90s mind you), Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Bone Thugs, etc....

An interesting topic we spoke about in school the other day. Hip Hop and Pit bull the dogs. I own a pit bull who's a great dog and loving dog. But what do you think about Hip Hop and Pit bulls. How are they portrayed?
I'm not blaming hip-hop for anything. I just want people to answer the question. How are they portrayed? Some hip hop artist use the pit bull as a metaphor to represent the artist. Pit bulls are dogs that are abused so often and used for fighting more often than any other breed.. But they are known for there determination or gameness of never quiting. That could be a metaphor for the artist who might have endured a struggle or abuse at one point but was determined and made him/her self successful. Maybe that's why some hip hop artist talk about pit bulls in there lyrics or just have one in there video. Heck, there's an artist called Pit Bull. That's one way of viewing it. The question is how do you think they are portrayed in the Hip Hop Culture?

The truth is, most of the dedicated pit bull owners I know are women. They look like a "tough guy" dog, but their underdog status and comic and cuddly demeanor, compact size, even temper and easy grooming make them a very attractive pet for women with active lifestyles. I know I've come to love my little bull dog and my daughter does too. How can you not love that smile? I agree that the pit bull has become a metaphor for the hip hop genre, but not the metaphor they intended. Pit bulls have always been the poor man's all purpose, hard working dog. That is why they were used as the symbol for the USA in WW1 posters. But I think the pit bull has become a symbol of how desolate the American ghetto really is. That is sad, since they could be a symbol of indomitable spirit and unconditional love. Maybe the hip hop community will take up the cause of this poor breed and stop its exploitation and neglect. They have that power. If our popular artists and modern poets can't spread awareness, who can?

People tend to hate or be afraid of things they don't understand, and like they things they identify with or aspire to. Breed generalization is the same as racial profiling in my book. I happen to love dogs, have had many types. My rottweilers have really gotten people up in arms, tho they never hurt a soul( and NO, I don't need them to look tough). case in point: A neighbor came out all puffed up with his rake while I was walking my dog. I went home, put her in the house and went back to ask if there was something he needed to say. Funny thing, he didn't come out to talk to me.
I find them to be loyal, loving, great companions, and yes a good guard dog.
I trust my dog to decide who's gonna hurt me or not better than I trust myself to wake up in the middle of the night and grab a gun.
Open minded, informed people can appreciate Hip-Hop and Pit Bulls- even if neither are their personal picks.

They are both under a microscope and usually get misjudged and categorized as being "bad" when some good actually does exist among them. A lot of these artists may seem like a "fighter" or "gangster" because of the way he/ she looks or the content of their lyrics. People fail to recognize, however, that rap is a form of art, and usually in no way represents or reflects their actual lifestyle. 99% of all these well-known artists live in the suburbs in fancy houses and rap about the ghetto. Its the same thing with pit bulls, they are judged as bad because of the way they look or the fact that they have amazing strength, and because of the many pit bulls suffering from bad ownership, but the fact is that most pit bulls live in happy and loving homes, and wont hurt a fly. I think that subconsciously or on purpose this plays a major role in tying the 2 together so closely.

Imagine if they did not have hip hop/rapping abilties they would be crack head bums and no girl will be with them. Thats another thing, the girls would never be with them if they had no money. btw Pit Bull is not a real breed anyways...that is just a general reverence name for all "bully" type breeds.
the correct name is American Pit Bull Terrier.
there are many bully breeds that look very close to an APBT, and so they get mistaken for them.
Reply:i think rap artists and pit bulls are similar in many ways. They are both under a microscope and usually get misjudged and categorized as being "bad" when some good actually does exist among them. A lot of these artists may seem like a "fighter" or "gangster" because of the way he/ she looks or the content of their lyrics. People fail to recognize, however, that rap is a form of art, and usually in no way represents or reflects their actual lifestyle. 99% of all these well-known artists live in the suburbs in fancy houses and rap about the ghetto. Its the same thing with pit bulls, they are judged as bad because of the way they look or the fact that they have amazing strength, and because of the many pit bulls suffering from bad ownership, but the fact is that most pit bulls live in happy and loving homes, and wont hurt a fly. I think that subconsciously or on purpose this plays a major role in tying the 2 together so closely.
Reply:The hip hop people are mostly sissy asses (not all) and have insecurities. So they try to represent themselves as being hard. Imagine if they did not have hip hop/rapping abilties they would be crack head bums and no girl will be with them. Thats another thing, the girls would never be with them if they had no money. As for me, I drive a bucket and they could leave or love it (ice cube). I never needed to be flashy and have money to pick up girls. Shoot! I was at the Power house last year and these goofy, flashy looking hip hopsters were trying to pick up on some girls. So me, with my old jeans and wrinkled shirt started conversating. They started to blush and laugh, they got all pissed and wanted to riot. I said, calm down ese vato I cant fight if you guys dont go one on one. They just walked away....sissies

Hip hop and jazz, just hip hop, just jazz, or modern and jazz?
I am going to sign up for dance class, but I am not sure if I should do hip hop or modern. The last time I took dance class was 5 years ago and I did ballet and tap. I want to do something fun, easy, and something I could do easily without being flexible, because I am not. My friend said that modern is a mixture of jazz and ballet, but in a more modern way. And she said for hip hop, you have to have good rhythm and cordination. You have to use a lot of energy. And in ballet you have to be flexible but I am not very good at that.
So my question kind of is should I do hip hop, modern, or jazz? 2 out of the 3, but I can't do hip hop AND modern. So I could do hip hop and jazz, just hip hop, just jazz, and modern and jazz. Which one is the best?

i did both and let me tell u it was hard .If u'r Ready for the task do both but otherwise do the one you like the best.
Reply:Well first of if you are going to a good school they will take the time to train your body to be more limber or flex able. I would say in your case hip pop might be good. But it all depends on if you like that type of music I took both jazz and hip pop. Similar but different both require energy. Jazz is a lil more about flexibility. And I know modern is all about moving your body it slow unique ways similar to yoga or something. So if you don't like to stretch I would leave modern alone.LOL

But anyways, it sounds like you want to move around a lot, so I would suggest you take jazz and hip-hop. They are all active, but I think those two are the most. For jazz, you will want splits, but I'm not sure for hip-hop: I do not think you will want them until you get to a more advanced level, if you need them at all. I can't really say for modern, but I would think so. I think jazz is the easiest, but that is just my opinion. Good luck, I hope I helped! Happy dancing!
